Looking for James I

This evening, Ann McIntosh, Ewen Honeyman, Andrew Rodger and Fiona Rodger attended a talk by Professor Richard Oram (Dean of Arts and Humanities - History, Stirling University) and Dr. Lucy Dean (Lecturer in History - Late Medieval and Early Modern Scotland and Europe - UHI) at the Battle of Bannockburn visitors centre by Stirling.

The illustrated talk was a very interesting mix of information about the history of James I, up to his assassination in Perth in 1437 and the attempts to locate the extent of the Charterhouse Buildings in Perth, with a hope that the search might yield the location of the king's grave. This project has been getting going for two and a half years and has involved Glasgow School of Art in the imagining of what the buildings may have looked like and to set the context for built history which is and will remain largely invisible. The skills of the GSA will bring us up-to-the-minute Augmented and Virtual Reality 360° technologies, as well as engagement over social media, mobile aps and live web-streaming.

Because it is our hope to engage with these kinds of technologies at the museum in Crieff, we wanted to speak to Richard about the work he is doing and we were able to have a meeting with him to discuss Crieff & Strathearn Museum after the talk. It was interesting and encouraging and we hope to maintain a dialogue with Richard in the coming months. If you want to find out more about the James I story, you can go here:

Web site under way

At a meeting of the board on July 16th, the domain hosting + web site were discussed and agreed, so today the web site was launched in its first iteration. It is a basic affair at the moment but it is intended that it will become more sophisticated and informative, as the museum project develops.
